History has the first recorded mention of cheesecake as being served to the athletes during the first Olympic Games held in 776 BC.

The first mention of chips was in 1854 when a leading chef included "thin cut potatoes cooked in oil" in his recipe book, Shilling Cookery.

Around this time, fish warehouses sold fried fish and bread, with mention of this in Charles Dickens’ novel Oliver Twist published in 1830.
