Marine

The thickness of a fog layer is largely determined by the altitude of the inversion boundary, which in coastal or oceanic locales is also the top of the marine layer, above which the air mass is warmer and drier.

The marine layer, and any fogbank it may contain, will be "squashed" when the pressure is high, and conversely, may expand upwards when the pressure above it is lowering.

Historically, marine mammals such as whales, dolphins and seals have been eaten as food, though that happens to a lesser extent in modern times.

Findings in a sea cave at Pinnacle Point in South Africa indicate Homo sapiens (modern humans) harvested marine life as early as 165,000 years ago.

Dolphins belong to a group of marine mammals called cetaceans, which also includes whales and porpoises.
